Judicial Experience

Judge Jim Coronado serves as Judge of the 427th Criminal District Court. Prior to serving in this position he was the Magistrate to the Travis County Criminal District Courts, a position to which he was unanimously appointed by the Travis County Criminal District Court Judges in 1991. He previously served contemporaneously as Municipal Judge in the cities of Kyle and Austin. He has served as a judge for 22 years and has presided over thousands felony cases in Travis County.

In the race for the 427th District Court, Judge Coronado was voted "best qualified" for the bench in the Austin Bar Association's Judicial Preference Poll beating the Republican appointee by more than 3 to 1, garnering over 72% of the vote among the then three candidates.

The 427th District Court tries criminal proceedings in Travis County, Texas. It is one of Texas' newest state district courts, created by an act of the 79th Legislature effective January 1, 2007.

Travis County is served by 17 district courts: 10 for civil matters and seven for criminal matters. Judge Jim Coronado served as the appointed magistrate for Travis County's criminal district courts from 1991 to 2009. He now serves as the elected judge of the 427th.
