About the 427th District Court

The 427th District Court will try criminal cases in Travis County, Texas. It is one of Texas' newest state district courts, created by an act of the 79th Legislature effective January 1, 2007.

Travis County is served by 17 district courts: 10 for civil matters and seven for criminal matters. Judge Jim Coronado has served as the appointed magistrate for Travis County's criminal district courts since 1991. He now seeks to serve as the elected judge of the 427th.

The bench will initially be filled by gubernatorial appointment. Governor Perry appointed a Republican judge to fill the court in September of last year, but the voters of Travis County will ultimately choose their own judge in the 2008 elections. If elected, Judge Coronado would begin serving on the bench of the 427th District Court on January 1, 2009.
